Petition Team files Complaint Against Carver County Attorney Mark Metz!

Petition Team files Complaint Against Carver County Attorney Mark Metz!

On October 23, 2018, the Petition Team requested that the Minnesota Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board investigate Carver County Attorney Mark Metz’s prosecutorial conduct regarding the death of the musician Prince Rogers Nelson (aka Prince). On April 19th, 2018, Mark Metz announced that he would not charge anyone with a crime in relation to Prince’s death. The announcement was inexplicable and shocking! The subsequent release of the Carver County Sheriff Office’s Investigation records revealed several red flags that did not support Mark Metz’s inexplicable decision not to charge anyone with a crime regarding Prince’s death.

A recent review of the Facebook friends of Kirk Johnson, a material witness in Prince’s death, revealed a long-term friendship between Kari Schutzenhofer Metz (“Kari Metz”), wife of Carver County Attorney Mark Metz, and Kirk Johnson. The review revealed a friendship between Kari Metz and Kirk Johnson that is evidenced by posts on Facebook from December 2014 through September 2018.

In light of Kari Metz’s friendship with Kirk Johnson, we have requested that the Board undertake a thorough investigation of Mark Metz’s use of his prosecutorial discretion not to charge anyone with a crime regarding Prince’s death, despite Kirk Johnson’s obvious and blatant violations of the Controlled Substances Act in active collaboration with Dr. Mark Schulenberg, and possibly other doctors.

We asked that the Board take remedial action, and Mark Metz should, henceforth, recuse himself from all prosecutorial decisions and actions pertaining to Prince’s death.
